Welcome
to "My Shadow" Silky Terriers! We are Silky Terrier breeders in the
countryside of Northeast Nebraska. Our dogs and puppies are very socialized
with adults and children and other dogs. We love taking our dogs out and
about-to shows & competitions, charity events, and just about town. We are
active in AKC Conformation Shows and other terrier trial events and compete
around the midwest. In 2010, we decided to retire from raising cairn terriers,
although, we still have our Taffy. We have recently added
an Austrailan Shepherd to our home-Roscoe. Even though he's still a pup, we've
been working on rally and even herding with this smart little
man!
This has
become a family hobby for us. Isaac recently entered the showring in October
2009 shortly after his 9th birthday, in AKC Juniors. It has been a wonderful
experience for him. Besides having great success, he has also learned how to
graciously accept defeat and to truly appreciate when a fellow handler wins over
him and he is able to honestly be happy for that person. So far, he's made some
great friends and they look forward to seeing each other at the
shows.
Autumn
enjoys training. As a 5 year old, she seems to have a knack for that. She LOVES
to come along to shows and is a frequent visitor to the vendors, seeking out
toys for the dogs-I have NO idea where she gets this from. She has yet to try
her hand in the ring, but has plenty of time. She'd rather just walk around
showing off one of the dogs and begging us to get her a cute Pomeranian puppy
that seems to be present at every show.
Jeff
usually is drafted to help. He's a very patient person and does what is needed
to get us in the ring. He also cares for the rest of the crew when we are off at
shows overnight. Although you won't find him putting the doggy sweaters on the
dogs, he sure shows them the affection that a silky needs.
I grew
up on a large farm with cattlle and Appaloosa horses. We raised English
Bobtailed Shepherds and had the best cattle dogs around. As kids, my siblings
and I were animal lovers-always a baby to play with-a foal, a calf, a kitten or
a puppy. No dolls for me-stuffed animals were much better. My love of animals
has led me here , doing what I love most-raising a family with a loving husband,
enjoying the company of my dogs, horse, cats, and cattle. We invite you to step
into our world-as chaotic as it may be, it's what we love-and we think you will
too.
Our dogs receive the best health care, exams, and preparation for his or her new home. We work very closely with our vets in all aspects of our terriers. From vaccinations to ultrasounds and prenatal care, our vets help us select the best for our dogs and come right to our kennel to help us do our planning and health checks when needed.
We are constantly continuing our education, with seminars, conventions, breeder boards, and written materials. We have read research by and attended some of the best genetic, structural, canine neonatal and disease seminars offered in the country!
We register our puppies with the AKC. The AKC is committed to the purebred dog and keeping the lineage pure, by not allowing "off the street" registrations as well as furthering education, canine health research, and much more. Amy was selected as one of the representatives to attend a breeder meeting in Raleigh, NC at the AKC Headquarters in January 2009.
We were voted NDBA 2005 Breeder of the Year for our efforts with our club, activities, dogs and our accomplisments. We are Nebraska State Licensed and inspected by both the state, the AKC and our veterinarians. We will be happy to show you our inspection reports!
In January 2009, Amy was one of a group of breeders selected from around the country to attend a breeder meeting at the AKC Headquarters in Raleigh, NC. In that same month, Amy was also active with members of the NDBA Legislative Committee and friends in the United Pet Professionals Association in planning and executing strategies in the Nebraska Unicameral to promote ethical breeding standards, while keeping the rights with responsible breeders and pet owners across Nebraska.
Amy has also served at the NDBA secretary and as a past president of the board of directors for the Northeast Nebraska Humane Society. She also has served as a speaker/lobbyist for the Nebraska Dog Breeders Association.
Please let us know how we can help you in selecting your next family pet. We only place puppies privately with our clients. We love to meet our new families and to develop relationships with them to help them as their puppy grows. We are here to help you before and after you receive your puppy.
Thank you for spending a little time with us, we hope we can help you!
